I have a survey with 10 question groups. I've enabled Assessments, and created a single Assessment for Scope = Total.

Across the 10 groups, I have some multiple choice questions where the answers have assessment values assigned to them.

A question might be like:
How many hours per week do you exercise?
0 hours (assessment score = 0)
5 hours (assessment score = 10)
10 hours (assessment score = 20)
more than 10 hours (assessment score = 30)

Across the 5 questions that have an assessment value, the maximum total score can only add up to 100.

At the end of the survey, I have a hidden question of type Equation where the equation is : {ASSESSMENT_CURRENT_TOTAL}

I'm doing this so I can (I thought), store the total score of the chosen multiple choice questions.

But the odd thing is I see the value in the hidden question for {ASSESSMENT_CURRENT_TOTAL} exceeding 100 at times. How could that be (as there is no way to select answers that would add up to more than 100?

Am I misunderstanding what {ASSESSMENT_CURRENT_TOTAL} stores?

Is there a better way to accomplish what I want?

I'm running LS build 2.67.3-170728.

Can you attach a small sample survey?
